Dr. Barkshire holds a Naturopathic Medical degree from Bastyr University in Seattle, Washington. While attending Bastyr she also received her license in massage therapy. During her last year of her medical training Dr. Barkshire was chosen to work as a student counselor in the Bastyr Counseling Center and regards counseling as a corner stone of her practice.

Dr. Barkshire received a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Alaska, Anchorage in 1986 and is an RN in Washington State. Her health care experience includes inpatient, intensive care, gynecology, family practice, home health care, urgent care and emergency medicine. Her nursing background combined with her extensive training in Naturopathic Medicine provides her with a great understanding of both conventional and complementary medicine. She has a passion for working with those who have chronic conditions as well as advocating for preventative health care. Dr. Barkshire enjoys living on the Kitsap Peninsula and is excited about the community’s overwhelming response to her practice in Bremerton.

Education and Licensure

In Washington state a Naturopathic Physician (ND) is a licensed primary care physician. Our education includes standard pre-med undergraduate studies, followed by a 4-5 years of academic and clinical study at an accredited school, offering a degree in Naturopathic Medicine. Currently there are four such schools in the United States. Bastyr University is recognized worldwide as a leader in science-based natural medicine education and research.
